L’Histoire est faite d’histoires, « c’est l’histoire qui fait la différence » pour Le Guin : « Tant que l’on expliquait la culture à travers l’invention et l’usage d’objets longs et dures destinés à pénétrer, frapper et tuer », dit-elle, « je n’ai jamais pensé que j’avais, ou même que je voulais une part de tout ça. » En passant au panier comme origine, Le Guin s’est sentie ancrée, « personnellement, dans la culture humaine comme jamais [elle] l’avai[t] senti auparavant. »
Pour cette 5e edition des rencontres U+ZINE, un cycle d’exploration des futurs alternatifs par le biais des arts et de la fiction, nous vous invitons à revisiter l’histoire, participer à la mise en récit d’un événement historique, à partir de la figure de l’uchronie.
Si vous vous êtes déjà posé la question “Et si…”, cet atelier est pour vous! La rencontre avec l’histoire se fera à partir d’un point de divergence. Ensemble, nous re-questionnerons la chronologie des événements qui en découlent.
L’uchronie est un moyen exceptionnel pour voyager dans le temps et revenir au présent peut-être un peu secoué, mais intact.
Organisé par le réseau U+ avec Ketty Steward, Karine Gobled et Miriam Cherry, cet atelier débutera par un échange avec les écrivaines autour de l’uchronie, l’histoire et comment cette figure joue sur le présent, puis se poursuivra par un moment d’écriture créative (en groupes francophones ou anglophones).

What if the first “cultural” device was not a weapon, but a recipient?, asks Ursula Le Guin in The Carrier Bag Theory of Fiction (1986).
History is made of stories, and “it is the story that makes the difference” for Le Guin: “So long as culture was explained as originating from and elaborating upon the use of long, hard objects for sticking, bashing, and killing, I never thought that I had, or wanted, any particular share in it.” By switching to the recipient as origin, Le Guin felt grounded, “personally, in human culture in a way [she] had never felt grounded before”.
For this 5th edition of the U+ZINE meetings, a cycle of thematic meetings and publication, for alternative futures and change through the lens arts and fiction, we invite you to revisit history and workshop together an alternative fiction.
If you have ever asked yourself the question “What if …” this is the perfect time to learn how to work from there! The encounter with history will take place from a point of divergence and together, we will interrogate the timeline ensuing from it.
Exploring alternative history is a recommended way if you enjoy time travelling and want to make it back in time for diner.
Organized by the U + network with Ketty Steward, Karine Gobled and Miriam Cherry, this workshop will begin with an exchange with the authors around the themes of alternative history and will pursue with the moment of creative writing (in French or English groups).
